Flow Measurement and Telemetry System

Telemetry is the system of measuring the flow parameters of the canal water. The instrument measures the velocity, depth and discharge in canal flow and this is also possible to be transmitted to the concerned authorities through a SIM card-enabled mechanism. Rightly positioned and used telemetry can help to know how much water each WUCS is using from the released volume of water. This in turn can help WUCS to address the “equity” issue among the farmers with varying land holding and harvesting different crops.

The system also has provision of “complete weather stations” that can help in monitoring various weather parameters such as rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction on real-time basis. These parameters help in optimizing the irrigation water usage if an application can be devised to help the farmers in taking informed-decisions.

The two-year contract for telemetry system was awarded to M/s HydroVision GmbH in JV with Canarys Automation Pvt. Ltd on 23 November 2015. The contract includes supply and installation of the telemetry system, one-year warranty and 5-years of operation and maintenance.
